- The premise here is that you want to rank for “city” + “service” words beyond your main keyword. So, not just “stamford dentist” but “stamford braces”. It can take a few forms…

- This really only works for your single main city (not other nearby cities or towns). Even then, it only works SOMETIMES. It seldom works for national companies, unless it is a hyperniche industry or service!

- Substitute approach
- Take a scarcity or abundance approach – compare yourself to other local options (even national?), be as nice or as aggressive as client sees fit

- Complement approach
- Introduce other local companies / options they might want to consider after they use your service. For example, for “braces”…
- Direct industry options like good toothbrushes, cleaning products, etc.
- Adjacent industry options like good optometrists, pediatricians, etc.

- This is simply writing a generic keyword-targeted help article, and putting a less than average twist on it for local.

- As you can tell, it’s not really a local article. But with enough effort, you can make it not seem too local keyword gimmicky, and it can still help your site.

Less critical – creating a “Local Company” page we want to rank for
- The premise here is that there is a local company who’s brand name traffic you think you’d benefit from
- In the example of the “Utah Valley Half Marathon”, they would benefit from showing up for the phrase “Nebo Half Marathon”
- How can they show up for that other race’s brand name? Simple, write a helpful article dedicated to that race
- Create your own review praising it, and suggesting they check you out too
- Or create a comparison review between you & them
