Download Screaming Frog

  1. Download Screaming Frog here
  2. Login using LastPass (the username should be “sebochris”)
  3. It should take you right to the “My Account” page. Note the most recent license key. Copy it, as we will need it for a future step

Activate Screaming Frog License

  1. Once you have opened the Screaming Frog app, find the “Licence” option in the top bar (the very top bar)
  2. Click “Enter Licence…”
  3. Enter the username “sebochris”
  4. Paste in the license key
  5. Click “OK and restart”

The Task

  1. Open Screaming Frog and add the URL Just use the domain (without the https or www.)
  2. Click “Start” to run the report. This may take a few minutes.
  3. Once the report is 100% crawled, click the filter button in the top left and change it to “HTML”.
  4. Download the report by clicking Export. It doesn’t matter how you export the report as long as you can copy the content.
    1. Go to the example client folder. Either save your download to this folder, or create a new sheet and paste in the content from your download.
  5. Open the report and delete the rows of the broken and non-indexable pages.
  6. Delete the columns you won’t need. Here are the columns you will keep:
    • Address
    • Title 1
    • Title 1 Length
    • Meta Description
    • Meta Description Length
    • H1-1
    • H1-2
    • Word Count
    • Inlinks
    • Outlinks
    • External Outlinks
  7. Change the length columns (Title Length and Meta Description Length) to count the character length of columns in next to them. In the first row of the Title Length column type: =LEN(B2). Copy the formula down the column. Do the same for the Meta Description Length: = LEN(D2).
  8. Add conditional formatting:
    • In the Title, Meta Description, and H1-1 columns have it turn red if it is blank.
    • In the Title Length column have it turn red it is more than 60.
    • In the Meta Description column and have it turn red if more than 160.
    • In the H1-2 column have it turn red if it isn’t blank.
  9. Now you can use this report on your SEO work by filling in the red blanks.

Download Screaming Frog. Do a crawl of sebomarketing.com, download the report and follow the task instructions, but don’t make any changes to the Sebo website. Save the edited report to the example client fold that you have using for your exams.
