Setting up a Google Optimize account is very simple.  Especially if you are using Google Tag Manager to fire Google Analytics.  When you go to optimize.google.com and create your first account, they will actually walk you through the steps to create your first test.  Here is an overview of the steps to setting up the account and getting your first test running as well as a video walkthrough.

  1. Go to optimize.google.com and create the account and container
  2. Create your first experiment (you can come back to this if you want)
  3. Link to Google Analytics
  4. Add Google Optimize tag to GTM and update Universal Analytics tag to have Google Optimize tag fire before GA tag.
  5. Set Objectives
  6. Set traffic allocation
  7. Schedule or start the test
