If you have heard of the Google core updates this year here is what you missed. A core update refers to an update to Google’s algorithm that helps Google show more relevant results to searches. Google releases core updates several times during a year. This year’s core updates focused on website content and matching searches to content. The core updates this year led to the Bert update. Though rankings did change with each core update, there were not big spikes like the Bert update had. If you saw ranking changes at the end of June and September they were probably due to the core updates. With the updates Google released an updated version of the Search Quality Raters Guidelines. The biggest take away from the updates is the EAT acronym. Goggle is focusing on Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness.
Google takes into consideration the EAT of a website and the EAT of the authors of the website. Authors need good online authority as well.
