Congratulations on getting to this point! You have accomplished everything as a Sebo Intern, a Marketing Trainee, and a Marketing Assistant. You have shown a desire and an ability to help companies with their online marketing needs. You have also shown the ability to close and service several clients.
Based on your level of recurring revenue, you will get paid in different ways.
MCIT < $3,500 = $16 per hour
MCIT < $10,000 = $36,000 per year
MC > $10,000 = $36k + Bucket Contributions
MCIT: Hourly < $3,500 in Recurring Revenue

MCIT – Less than $3,500 Recurring Revenue
At this point, you are just starting your journey to become an MC. You’re learning about digital marketing, sales techniques, and building your relationship capital. You also are figuring out how to balance completing tasks for MC’s as well as effectively completing a number of sales tasks.
Status: Your clients have not generated over $3,500 per month in combined revenue for 3 consecutive months.
Your Pay: If you are still in school and are Part Time, it is $18 per Hour.
Your Pay: If you have graduated and are Full Time, it is $20 per Hour.
Scheduling and Other HR Details:
As an hourly employee, you have greater flexibility in your schedule. You may choose how many hours each week you work, up to and not exceeding 40 hours per week. You may select your own start and end time each day. You will clock your hours on a time sheet, consistent with our standard timesheet policies.
Note: Even though you have schedule flexibility and can select your hours, remember, that choosing to work significantly less hours than full time may delay your progress in becoming an MCIT. Also to be eligible for full time benefits (as opposed to part-time employee status), you should plan to work on average at least 30-35 hours per week.
Lunch and Breaks: Per HR best practices, as an hourly employee, you are expected to take at least a 30 minute lunch each day you work an excess of 4 consecutive hours in a day. See our meal/break policy for more information. Lunches may not be skipped, and should be taken at the latest before 2:00 pm.
You are eligible for paid vacation days according to our standard vacation policy. Any time off taken in excess of vacation day eligibility will be unpaid. See our vacation day policy or visit with your HR manager for more information.
Telecommuting: As an MCIT, you are asked to continue to work as a full time in office employee. Telecommuting arrangements may be made on a case by case basis, but should generally not extend for a long period of time. Exceptions to this policy for an extended period of time must be approved with the CEO and/or HR manager. Situational telecommuting (one day here or there), should be approved by your supervisor or HR manager. See our telecommuting policy for more information.

Your Pay: $36,000 per year
Scheduling and Other HR Details:
As a salaried employee, you have more stability in your compensation, and slightly less flexibility in your schedule. Salaried MCIT employees are expected to work as close to 40 hours per week as possible. Your start and end time each day may be flexible and can vary from day to day. Hours should be completed during business hours – Monday to Friday wherever possible. You will have increased schedule flexibility, similar to that of an MC, as you continue to progress in your skills and revenue.
(Example Schedule. 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with an hour lunch, or 8:30 am to 5:30 pm with an hour lunch etc).
Benefits: Salaried MCIT employees are eligible for all full time employee benefits, consistent with our current benefit policies. Standard timelines for all benefits apply.
Lunch and Breaks: Per HR best practices, as a salaried employee, you are still expected to take at least a 30 minute lunch each day you work an excess of 4 consecutive hours in a day. See our meal/break policy for more information. Lunches may not be skipped, and should be taken at the latest before 2:00 pm.

MCIT < $10,000 in Recurring Revenue
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
MCIT – Between $3,500 & $10,000 in Recurring Revenue
You now have closed a number of clients, and a number of clients have come directly from your networking activities. You are comfortable in most sales situations, can handle most basic client needs, and feel confident in creating smart strategies for clients. You also have implemented many strategies and seen multiple clients see real successes.
Status: You have generated over $3,500 in revenue for 3 consecutive months. You have NOT generated over $10,000 in recurring revenue yet.
Your Pay: $3,000 per month or $36,000 per year (DOE) + any Bucket Contributions as Applicable (See section for MC >$10,000 for more details)
Schedule and HR Details:
As an MCIT above $3,500 in Revenue, you have now advanced to becoming closer to an MC. As such, you have earned the right to have a salary and increased schedule flexibility. You will be expected to maintain your revenue level in order to retain this MCIT status, but will have the ability to choose your hours and working schedule, similar to that of an MC. Your schedule will not be tracked, and you may start and end your day as you choose.
Vacation Time: As a full MC, you are compensated on a salary and commission basis (bucket contributions) and are eligible for vacation time according to your own schedule. There is no tracked vacation time, and you may take as much or as little vacation as you like, while maintaining your progress and revenue level.
Telecommuting: However, unlike a full MC, we still ask that MCITs less than $10,000 in Recurring Revenue plan to work full time from our office location. Exceptions to this policy will be given on a case by case basis and must be approved by the CEO and/or HR Manager. Situational telecommuting situations may be approved through your supervisor or HR manager.
Lunch and Breaks: Per HR best practices, we still encourage you as a salaried employee to take at least a 30 minute lunch each day you work an excess of 4 consecutive hours in a day. See our meal/break policy for more information. Lunches may not be skipped, and should be taken at the latest before 2:00 pm.
MC > $10,000 in Recurring Revenue

MC – Over $10,000 in Recurring Revenue
Once you have generated over $10,000 in revenue in 3 different months (may or may not be consecutive months), you become an MC. Way to go! You are now a capable digital marketer. Companies like working with you. They trust your recommendations and have seen real results. You are starting to think more like a business owner, and you now understand much more about running a business and controlling things that effect revenues and expenses. It’s time to start making more money! You’ve earned it!
As an added benefit, the profits you generated in month 3 go directly to building up your bucket. In other words, in the month you hit $10k the 3rd time, you generated $1,500 in profits. Those profits go directly into your bucket.
Status: You have generated over $10,000 in revenue in 3 different months.
Your Pay: $3,000 per month + Bucket Contributions (see below)
Scheduling and HR Details:
As an MC, you have full control over your schedule and full flexibility to select your hours as you see fit. You also have full freedom over vacation time (no tracked vacation days). You are also authorized to work in office or remotely (telecommuting) as you see fit, and as is consistent with maintaining and growing your revenue, and with participating as a full and contributing member of Sebo Marketing.
MC Bucket Contributions & Bucket Withdrawals
You will be responsible for your own Profit and Loss statement. Details will be shown to you as you progress through positions at Sebo.
As you generate revenue and control your expenses, you will generate profits. Those profits get put into a special savings account known as an “MC Bucket”. The amounts of profit that are put into your bucket are known as Bucket Contributions.
Why does the Bucket exist? If you had a bad month as a normal commissioned sales person, you would take home less pay that month. If you have a month where you lose money, rather than getting a smaller paycheck than normal, money gets pulled from your Bucket so you can take home your normal pay. We want you to enjoy some security as an MC, so for the first little while, profits you generate go into your MC Bucket. Until your Bucket has $5,000 in it, you will only receive your base pay.
Once your Bucket surpasses $5,000, you get to withdraw money from your Bucket anytime you want. Pulling money from your Bucket is known as Bucket Withdrawals.
For example, several MC’s regularly generate profits, and their buckets have more than $5,000 in them. Let’s say an MC has $7,500 in her bucket. The Sebo Office staff will run what’s known as “Special Payroll”, and Sebo then does an additional direct deposit for each MC. The MC receives $2,500 less normal taxes on or before the 20th of the month.
Pay Frequency
You will receive a paycheck twice per month, and each paycheck will include half your base pay. You also receive your bucket contributions if earned.
So in summary, profitable MC’s receive 3 paychecks per month. Assuming the base pay is $3,000, you get regular payroll of $1,500 around the 10th of the month, the Special Paycheck around the 20th of the month, and then the 2nd regular payroll around the 25th of the month.
Increasing Your Base Pay
Another cool perk about this program is you truly are in charge of your base pay. If you have generated over $2,000 in bucket contributions for more than 6 consecutive months, you have the option of increasing your base pay by $1,000 per month.
In this scenario, you increase your base pay from $3,000 to $4,000 per month, so now each normal paycheck will be for $2,000 instead of $1,500. Obviously, your bucket will now only go up by $1,000 per month instead of $2,000 per month.
You may repeat this as often as you want. For example, you generate $2,000 in profits every month. You increase your base pay by $1,000. Obviously, your profits now drop to $1,000 per month. But, you later add several new clients, and you now have generated $2,000 in profits again for another 6 months. Feel free to increase your base pay again!
In summary, you are in control!
Compensation Example
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
You’ve become an official MC, and you are now generating regular revenue from clients. Let’s say that you are generating $12,000 per month in recurring revenue, your base pay is $3,000, and you have $1,200 in regular expenses. Here’s the breakdown:
- $12,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $5,100
- Less $3,000 in payroll
- Less $1,200 in other expenses
- Net Profit = $900
- So you make $3,000 from your base pay, and you contribute $900 to your Bucket.
- After 6 months, your Bucket has $5,400 in it. Once your Bucket has at least $5,000 in it for 3 months, you get the excess.
- At this rate, after 3 months, your bucket will have $5,400 in month 1, $6,300 in month 2, and $7,200 in month 3.
- You now get take as much of the amount over $5,000 any time you want. You can pull out the $2,200, or you can leave it alone and let it grow.
- In addition, if you keep contributing $900 each month, you can choose to increase your base pay from $3,000 to $3,900. However, if your profits go down, you might have to lower your base pay. If your bucket drops below $5,000, you must lower your base pay back to $3,000.
- Now, for every $1,000 in new client revenue you bring in, your take home pay can go up by $425!
We have spreadsheets that we can review with you, but this gives you the rough structure of how your pay would work.
$10,000 Recurring - About $39,000 per Year
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
$10,000 Recurring Revenue would likely produce an annual income of $39,000 for you. Here’s the breakdown (assuming $500 in additional expenses per $5,000 in revenue):
$10,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $4,250 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $1,000 in expenses
= $250 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $250 profit = $3,250 x 12 months = $39,000 annual compensation
$15,000 Recurring - About $58,500 per Year
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
$15,000 Recurring Revenue would likely produce an annual income of $58,500 for you. Here’s the breakdown (assuming $500 in expenses per $5,000 in revenue):
$15,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $6,375 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $1,500 in expenses
= $1,875 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $1,875 profit = $4,875 x 12 months = $58,500 annual compensation
$20,000 Recurring - About $60k to $78k per Year
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
$20,000 Recurring Revenue would likely produce an annual income of $78,000 for you (if you didn’t have any employees). Here’s the breakdown (assuming $500 in expenses per $5,000 in revenue):
$20,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $8,500 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $2,000 in expenses
= $3,500 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $3,500 profit = $6,500 x 12 months = $78,000 annual compensation
Please Note: While you don’t need to hire employees, it is expected that at this revenue level, you would likely want to have a PT employee that makes $1,500 per month. Let’s assume that you had additional payroll of $1,500 per month to assist you in taking care of your clients. Instead of making $78k per year, your expenses would be an additional $18k per year, so instead you would make $60,000.
$20,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $8,500 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $1,500 in employee compensation
– $2,000 in expenses
= $2,000 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $2,000 profit = $5,000 x 12 months = $60,000 annual compensation
$30,000 Recurring - About $81k to $117k per Year
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
$30,000 Recurring Revenue would likely produce an annual income of $117,000 for you (if you didn’t have any employees). Here’s the breakdown (assuming $500 in expenses per $5,000 in revenue):
$30,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $12,750 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $3,000 in expenses
= $6,750 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $6,750 profit = $9,750 x 12 months = $117,000 annual compensation
Please Note: While you don’t need to hire employees, it is expected that at this revenue level, you would likely want to have 1 FT employee or 2 PT employees. Let’s assume that you had additional payroll of $3,000 per month to assist you in taking care of your clients. Instead of making $117k per year, your expenses would be an additional $36k per year, so instead you would make $81,000.
$30,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $12,750 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $3,000 in employee compensation
– $3,000 in expenses
= $3,750 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $3,750 profit = $6,750 x 12 months = $81,000 annual compensation
$40,000 Recurring - About $120k to $156k per Year
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
$40,000 Recurring Revenue would likely produce an annual income of $156,000 for you (if you didn’t have any employees). Here’s the breakdown (assuming $500 in expenses per $5,000 in revenue):
$40,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $17,000 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $4,000 in expenses
= $10,000 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $10,000 profit = $13,000 x 12 months = $156,000 annual compensation
Please Note: While you don’t need to hire employees, it is expected that at this revenue level, you would likely want to have 1 FT employee or 2 PT employees. Let’s assume that you had additional payroll of $3,000 per month to assist you in taking care of your clients. Instead of making $156k per year, your expenses would be an additional $36k per year, so instead you would make $120,000.
$40,000 in Revenue x 42.5% = $17,000 in Team Revenue
– $3,000 base pay
– $3,000 in additional payroll
– $4,000 in expenses
= $7,000 in monthly profit
$3,000 base + $7,000 profit = $10,000 x 12 months = $120,000 annual compensation
$8,250 x 12 months = $99,000 annual compensation

Schedule Flexibility
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
In addition to your compensation package, MC’s are completely in charge of their own schedules. You don’t need to ask permission to pick someone up from the airport. Go skiing or golfing whenever you want. Take as many vacations as you want. Yes, we really mean this!
If you have earned the right to become an MC, you have shown the ability to balance your life and your work. You know what you need to get done. You know how to take care of and WOW your clients. If you lose sight of those priorities, you will likely lose clients. This will directly impact the money you receive each month. We aren’t going to babysit you. Do what it takes to be successful!
There are times when your clients will need to get in touch with you. We expect that they will be able to reach you most of the time. In the cases where they can’t reach you, they often will call the corporate office number. In these cases, we need to know where you are. So, it’s critical that you keep your Google calendar up-to-date at all times.
PLEASE NOTE: If your sales are poor and you aren’t hitting your goals (this specifically means that if you are “in the red”, this schedule flexibility privilege might be taken away. We want to help you be successful and if you are in the red, you are on the verge of not being successful. In this case, we will work closely with you and support you in any way we can. This means we will review your schedule very carefully and we expect you to do the things needed to turn things around.
Incentive Trips
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
Part of the money that goes back to Sebo is used for incentive trips. In 2016, the company goals were hit, so Sebo paid for all the expenses for the entire team to go to Maui Hawaii! The trip lasted from Feb 7 to Feb 11, 2017.
Goals were also hit in 2017, so from Feb 20 to Feb 24, 2018, a total of 8 Seboites and 5 spouses will enjoy the awesome Big Island of Hawaii! To participate in these trips, you must be a paid employee of Sebo Marketing by July 1 to participate in the trip for that year.
In other words, to participate in the 2018 Incentive Trip (which will take place in Feb 2019), you need to help us accomplish our 2018 goals. So, you would need to be hired at Sebo by July 1, 2018.

Google’s SEO algorithm changes over 1,000 times per year, and they don’t publish the changes! Do you think you can stay on top of everything on your own?
Our SEO and PPC gurus will make sure you understand the key changes, and will even monitor your accounts to make sure that best practices are staying in place. Some trainings will be individual time just for you, and other times the training will include other MC’s, so you can learn from them.
Tech Support

A client calls you up and says that their website is down. Do you want to tackle a hosting issue? What if the problem is domain name related?
Instead of a problem, let’s now assume the client wants to make some technical improvements to their site, and it’s beyond your skill level?
We don’t want you to worry about tackling these issues. Turn these issues over to our Tech Support team!
In some situations, MC’s will receive referrals from different marketing partners. For example, in 2019, we have agreements with Utah Tech-X and GroFire to pay 10% to the partner for clients they send us. As of Feb 2019, those agreements state that we will pay the commission as long as the company remains as a Sebo client. How does this effect MC compensation? Who pays the partner commission? We looked at several options, and we’ll use the following assumptions:
- $1,000 in revenue
- 10% commission to the referral partner
- 10% in outsourced expenses (content writing, link building, etc)
Option #1: The Commission Comes from Top Line Revenue
- There is a journal entry that removes the $100. So even though $100 was received, the MC appears to have $900 in sales, not $1,000 in sales
- The MC then spends up to $90 (10% of $900) on outsourced expenses
- The MC receives $810 x 42.5% = $344.25
Option #2: The Commission Comes from their Expenses
- The MC has an expense of $100 that is paid to the referral partner
- The MC then spends up to $100 (10% of $1,000) on outsourced expenses
- The MC receives $800 x 42.5% = $340
Option #3: The Commission is Paid by Sebo
- Sebo has an expense of $100 that is paid to the referral partner
- The MC then spends up to $100 (10% of $1,000) on outsourced expenses
- The MC receives $900 x 42.5% = $382.5
Our Decision through 2020?
Since Sebo currently has negotiated all the partner agreements, we feel that Sebo will cover the partner agreement costs (Option 3). In the future, if a new agreement is negotiated by the MC without Sebo’s help, the MC would be responsible to cover those expenses (Option 2). We recommend that all partner agreements are approved by Bruce so that Sebo will cover those partner expenses.
Update from September 2020
As Sebo has grown, most of the referral agreements are put in place by the MC’s. This brings up some potential issues that are worth discussing. Who pays those commissions? What are the potential models?
- Sebo continues to cover all the costs of all the referral partner commissions
- The MC covers the costs of all the referral partner commissions
- Sebo covers the costs for a certain period of time
- For example, Sebo pays the $100 per month for the first year, then the MC pays the commission in year 2 and beyond
- The MC covers the costs for a certain period of time
- For example, the MC pays the $100 per month for the first year, then Sebo pays the commission in year 2 and beyond
- Sebo covers the costs up to a certain dollar amount
- For example, Sebo pays the first $250 of referral commissions each month. The MC pays everything above $250.
- The MC covers the costs up to a certain dollar amount
- For example, the MC pays the first $250 of referral commissions each month. Sebo pays everything above $250.
In all cases, Sebo will only cover a referral commission up to 10%. If an MC wanted to provide a strong incentive for the partner to send more business their way, so they promised a 25% commission, that breaks the model for Sebo.
This topic will be discussed further, and then a new policy will be put in place by January 2021.
Compensation Policies & Details
MC’s are really about as close as it can get to being a business owner, but without many of the issues and headaches – and risks – that come with ownership. Yeah, if you owned your own business, you get more upside – and risks! So why be a part of Sebo’s team? You share your revenue with Sebo, but you get many benefits as well. This section of the site reviews some of those benefits.
Cost Sharing Overview
Last Updated on June 20, 2022
In many cases, you might want to participate in something that costs some money. In some of those cases, there are some costs involved. Who covers those costs?
In summary
- If you are an MCIT and want to participate in an APPROVED event, activity, or networking group, Sebo will cover all of the costs.
- If you are an MCIT and want to participate in an NON-APPROVED event, activity, or networking group, Sebo may cover some costs. Please get permission before attending or signing up for the event.
- If you are an MC and want to participate in an APPROVED event, activity, or networking group, Sebo will help cover some of the costs.
- If you are an MC and want to participate in an NON-APPROVED event, activity, or networking group, Sebo may cover some costs. Please get permission before attending or signing up for the event.
